I flipped the script on this one! There's no deep meaning behind it. I just had an idea to sort of mirror two opposing waves like this. I didn't even sketch it out. I just went right to the canvas with only a vision in my head. A lot of times when I do that things change once I get into the "meat" of the painting. Like I didn't anticipate this or that and I have to compensate one way or another. But this one followed pretty close to what I had in mind. The only change I made was the line of dots. In photography there's a term called bokeh. It refers to the out of focus areas of a photograph. When I started with the dots I had in mind creating the effect of water splashes that are out of focus, a technique that is often artsy and beautiful in surf photography. As I got into painting them, one thing led to another and I ended up with a flowing curve of bokeh dots. Brush don't lie haha! In the end it all works together very well I think. Taking elements of realism and making them contemporary, abstract even. This piece measures 24"W x 36"H x 1.5"D. The canvas wraps around the edges and the edges are painted the same tan background color. It comes ready to hang with wire attached.
